HISTORY of "5 DE MAYO" BATTLE
The Battle of Pueblo was directed by Gen. Ignacio Zaragoza. It took place on May 5, 1862 near the state of Puebla (Mexico). During the French intervention, the battle ended it a victory for the Mexican army over the occupancy of French forces. The French eventually overran the Mexicans in subsequent battles but the Mexican victory at Pueblo against a better equipped and a larger French army provided a significant morale boost to the Mexican army. It also help slow the French armies advance toward Mexico City.
